Terrelle Pryor Signs One-Year $8 Million Deal With Redskins

Earlier today we found out that Terrelle Pryor was meeting with the Washington Redskins and Adam Schefter is reporting they have found a contract that works for both parties. Pryor had reportedly left the facility without a deal but it’s now being reported that he has one. He came out of his shell last season and found his stride with the Cleveland Browns having over 1000 yards receiving averaging over 13 yards per catch.  The Ohio State Quarterback, oh wait, Wide Receiver, oh wait…I am so confused haha!  He came into the league as what can best be considered as a Quarterback/Wide Receiver.  He was drafted by the Raiders, traded to the Seahawks, released, picked up by the Chiefs, released, picked up by the Bengals, released and finally came to grips with the fact that he was made to be an NFL Wide Receiver.  The Cleveland Browns decided they would take a chance on him and picked him up off waivers and after being released he was brought back after Josh McCown got injured.  He would become some what of a swiss army knife for the Browns even playing safety at one point against the Dolphins last season.  He ended up ranked in the top 10 among NFL receivers for the regular season.

TCU Takes Out Kansas In Big 12 Quarterfinals

Yesterday proved that the impossible certainly is attainable.  No one gave TCU a chance against the number one team in the land but they were somehow able to pull it off.  Don’t let the #8 ranking on TCU fool you.  They came into this game with an RPI ranking of 78th.  Kansas led by as much as 12 at one point.  It basically came down to TCU being far deeper in their roster than Kansas was able to get.  Kansas got a total of 3 points from their bench while TCU was able to grab 34 points from their bench who ended up being crucial as their squad was in foul trouble early and often.

After the game, Alex Robinson was talking about how it feels to upset the number one team in the nation. He also talks about having to overcome the large Jayhawk contingency crowd.

Today the Horned Frogs will be taking on Iowa State who they split the series 1-1 in the regular season. The series deciding game will determine who will end up playing for the Big 12 Championship and have an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. TCU will more than likely need to win the Big 12 tournament in order to have a chance at the NCAA Tournament. Otherwise my guess is they will be looking at an NIT tournament bid.

UNC-Wilmington Wins Colonial Tournament

Last season University of North Carolina Wilmington lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in a close game against Duke. This season they look to make it a revenge tour having two players last season transfer out to other universities. They brought in two transfers and recruited two local players from Jacksonville and Grantsboro, North Carolina. They have 4 players who average double digits in points and are a very fast paced team scoring quite a bit on transition in this championship. There were also quite a few three balls in this game from UNCW. The first half was very competitive but the Seahawks of UNCW ended up taking advantage of poor ball handling and turnovers in the second half. Charleston never could get the three ball working as they shot less than 30% for the entire game. C.J. Bryce was the MVP on this day shooting 75% from 3 point range and scoring 24 points.

Winthrop Takes The Big South Conference Tournament

You may not know much about Winthrop University. It’s located in Rock Hill, South Carolina (which is actually basically a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina.  The story to me about this game was how it was basically Chris Clemons of Campbell vs. Keon Johnson of Winthrop.  While Clemons (29pts) might have had the better game, Winthrop ended up getting the better of Campbell winning the game 76-59.  As a bonus here is a highlight of the Quarterfinals game between UNC Asheville and Campbell in which Clemons dropped 51 and single-handedly won the game for them:

Andrew Bogut Lasts 58 Seconds With Cavaliers

The title pretty much says it all. Less than a minute into his debut Andrew Bogut fractured his left tibia according to the official release.  It’s pretty amazing that this happened so quickly and it does not bode well for Lebron and his squad as they will have to work harder in order to maintain the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.  Not that it really matters that much because the East is a joke and has been for a while now.  Boston looks to be the only team that could potentially give them trouble and they would have to make up three games to catch up the Cavs right now and going 5-5 over the past 10 games is not the way to do that.  The Toronto Raptors have dropped off over the past month while the Washington Wizards have been making moves.

So what does this mean for Andrew Bogut’s future? It does not look good for him. Most seven footers who break things in their leg almost never come back and when they do their play looks like a shell of what they used to be. I am pretty sure the Aussie is done being dominant in the NBA. I am going to call it right now.

Florida Gulf Coast University Wins Atlantic Sun Tournament

“Dunk City” has struck again punching their ticket into the tournament. Had they not won the tournament something tells me they would have still had a shot. At one point Dunk City goes so hard that the shot clock stops working. When even the clock starts freaking out over a dunk you know you have something special. It was just a couple of years ago when they made it to the Sweet 16. The year was 2013, their seeding was #15. They made it past #2 seeded Georgetown and then #7 seeded San Diego State. They would eventually be downed by a streaking #3 seeded Florida by a score of 62-50. Check out the video of this dunk:

The tournament ended up having a couple of upsets but nothing that ended up being too crazy. The chips fell as we all thought they would and for a second straight season Florida Gulf Coast will be attending the big show. It will be interesting to see where they get seeded. My guess is they will be somewhere in the neighborhood of a #13 or #14 seed which will make it their highest seed in school history. Let’s hope that they don’t run into a Duke/North Carolina in the first game. Here is how the Atlantic Sun Tournament ended up shaping up:

John Ross Breaks NFL Combine 40 Yard Dash Record

The record everyone thought would never be broken has already been broken.  Everyone was so confident that Chris Johnson’s 4.24 second 40 yard dash record would never be broken that Adidas even offered to give someone an island if they did it while wearing their brand of shoe. Que University of Washington Wide Receiver John Ross…He ran so fast that he actually injured himself. Twitter was in an uproar when he beat the record running a 4.22 second 40 yard dash.

Here is a video of Chris Johnson’s famous 40 Yard Dash at the 2008 NFL Combine:

This was a pretty amazing feat in itself but he won’t be getting the island because he was wearing a pair of Nike’s. Nike took to twitter blasting Adidas:

I just want to know what the maintenance, taxes, and development costs would be if he were to have actually gotten the island. While he ran an insane 40 I am still not sure he will even be going in the first round of the NFL Draft. I am not sure what his signing bonus will be, but I am pretty sure that joining the Nike team will net him more at this point than his first contract. The biggest winner this past weekend was definitely Nike.

Chiefs Release Jamaal Charles

Former Memorial High School and University of Texas Longhorn Jamaal Charles has been officially released by the Kansas City Chiefs today.  He will hit the market at the same time as Adrian Peterson which could actually help his cause as there will be several teams vying for both of them.  While Peterson would draw more attention I believe Charles will produce more yards throughout the rest of his career.  I guess it really depends on where they both end up.  Adam Schefter is the one reporting that he has been released:

In nine seasons, Jamaal Charles has had over 7,000 yards rushing and nearly 2,500 yards receiving. His overall average is 5.5 yards per carry and 8.6 yards per catch. He has scored 64 times and averages a little over 7 touchdowns per season. His career has been marred with injuries though only playing a full season three times in his entire career. In the past two seasons he has played in eight total games. The problem with the Chiefs is that they have too many backs in their line up and really cannot afford to keep Charles on. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West are both young and are producing yards and touchdowns at an insane clip. Ware is basically a younger version as Jamaal as well with his ability to pick up yards after he catches the ball.

Eric Berry To Become Highest Paid Safety

Eric Berry grew up in the great football state of Georgia.  Out of high school he wanted to go to Tennessee and was recruited by the great Phillip Fulmer but would live through the worst coaching decision in NCAA history when Lane Kiffin came to town in 2009.  Eric finished his third season having garnered 14 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.  He decided that instead of being at Tennessee for his senior year he would declare for the NFL Draft.  This was the right decision as he was the fifth overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs and has been their star safety ever since.  He has 14 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles so far in his first five seasons with the Chiefs and they have decided to make him the highest paid Safety in the league.  This deal according to Ian Rapoport is worth $78 Million over six years.

What people may not know about Berry is that he has had cancer during his NFL career.  Back in 2014 during a game versus the Oakland Raiders, Berry was overheard complaining of pains in his chest.  There was a mass found in his chest and he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma just a few weeks later.  He went through chemotherapy treatments and was given the go ahead to resume his career before the next season even started.  During the 2016 season the Chiefs, wanting to know what Berry was made of, placed the franchise tag on him.  Normally I would frown on taking that contract as a player but it has obviously paid off for him.  He ended the season with 4 interceptions and a forced fumble. He averages an interception for every 6 games he starts in.

At 40 Vince Carter Proves He Still Has It

The day before his 40th birthday, Vince Carter is in his third season for the Memphis Grizzlies and they are taking on second place in the Eastern Conference Toronto Raptors. The “half-man, half-amazing” Grizzlies swingman who spends most of his time under the rim found a way to rise above it once again in his 19th season of the NBA.  He evaded Terrence Ross by spinning away from him then jumped towards the rim and did a 360 in order to get away from Lucas Nogueira. He finished the play off with a layup.  The best part of the play was the crowds reaction to all of it (it was like something out of an And1 mixtape).  His stats have been below average but he is still a worthy opponent on the court.
